SUMMER DAZE

Days spent remembering
Golden fields of corn,
The wind whispering its secrets
Amongst its stems.

Meadows of green,
Crisp and fresh like apples.
Chains of daisies around
Her neck;
Searching the clover
For the extra leaf of
Good fortune.

Breathe deeply,
The summer perfume of
The hedgerows,
Coconut gorse;
Butterflies caressing
The delicate flower petals.

Sun baking down on skin;
Daydreams of better times...
Till later;
Relief of cool tree-limb shade,
Away from the scorch
Of overhead fire.

Summer daze;
As dusk approaches,
A welcome breeze stirs up
Memories of summers long gone.
